The “shell” is the surface. The infinite spatial imagination of movement and stillness, emptiness and reality, simplicity and richness, wakefulness and trance collide and weave in the interior of this home, and the breath between the micro gaps is long and gentle, narrating the diversified and diverse life.
Jules Valles said: “Space always makes me calm down”, as quiet as the white background under the wall clock.
A set of independent shoe cabinets is set up in the foyer to ensure the privacy of the public area and act as a buffer for the excess of space. The whole wall of flat mirrors is painted with ready-made space scenery, reflecting the extension of the wall, the linear light of the ceiling and the entry locker in turn, with different materials and forms contrasting and overlapping with each other.
The white curved sofa enters the clean space with a floating sense of flow, and the lightness and artistic beauty of the curved line gives a natural experience of enclosure, and in conjunction with the light coffee table, brings a minimalist atmosphere of volume.
After the extension of the living room balcony into the interior, the total drop pipe is coarse and abrupt. The designer also uses the curved structure to skin it, which eventually harmoniously conceals and echoes the lines of the sofa. The linear lighting on the top surface runs through both living and dining rooms, strengthening the sense of span and integrity of the two spaces.
Between the living room and the master bedroom, because of the small size of the living room opening, so the choice of mirror stainless steel decorative structure column, stainless steel structure column, TV background and sofa between the migratory line, regional tandem makes the space more smooth and sparse. When walking, you can see that the mirror stainless steel makes the space and material produce different angles of wonderful deformation and distortion, reflecting a novel visual image, while blurring the border and weakening the sense of structural heaviness.
Part of the original guest bathroom space is compressed and divided into a dining and kitchen area, integrated into an open kitchen. The one-piece island and dining table were made on site to maximize the operating surface of the cabinets and the use of the dining table.
Considering the living habits of the homeowner, the designer designed a concealed laundry room near the side of the cabinets, while also retaining the dry area toilet function in the guest bathroom to solve the toilet problem when parents occasionally come over to live or when guests are guests. The dramatic black lines lined up horizontally and vertically are extremely rigid. To avoid visual heaviness and monotony, the designer embedded light strips in the upper gable of the cabinet doors, using light as a medium to enrich the hierarchy of details, with both decorative and practical effects.
The master bedroom is warm and everyday, with light and dark, visible and hidden cooperating with each other. The texture of the back wall is clear, and the wood veneer, black grille and mirrored stainless steel details blend different textures. The subtle changes in color and material give the space a subdued and quiet tone, showing a continuous sleep composition.

The wet area accommodates the shower and bathtub functions. The dry area is separated from the checkroom wall to allow for a more transparent and free space.
The second bedroom is separated from the living room by an oversized sliding door, and an invisible bed is designed inside the whole storage cabinet, which is usually open as a lounge. The air, light and landscape of all areas of the home can be interconnected.
The window in the checkroom brings bright light, and the overhead cabinet maximizes the storage function on the basis of independence and simplicity. The shoe-changing bench can be used for temporary resting, and the interior can also be used for storage.
Conclusion
The overall field revolves around the spatial concept of “shell”, with softness and hardness, boundaries and breaking. When you look at it, spring, summer, autumn and winter are the usual transitions, the rise and fall are the blurred interweaving of edges, and the light and shadows are dappled. The living style is clear, and it gives rise to a tantalizing and realistic beauty similar to minimalism.

This is a private house design project in Nanjing, the original building has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, the household type is moderate, the owner usually lives alone, occasionally his parents will come to stay for a few days. The design of the project is based on the current and possible future needs of the owner, and the designer tried to improve the existing spatial system to create a more free layout.
